The Junior University of Essen <\/strong><\/a> will be an additional educational network and aims to promote the talent development of young people, regardless of their educational background, as well as further networking of educational offers for them. The Junior University is intended to be a sensible addition to and interlinking of the various existing possibilities on offer in Essen. Children and young people – irrespective of their educational background – are to be offered courses in experimentation and research throughout the year, thus inspiring lifelong learning with fun. In the initial phase, the focus will be on mathematics and computer science, technology and natural sciences, humanities and social sciences, as well as history and culture.<\/p>\n

An exciting range of courses is currently being developed and will soon be available here.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The aim of the zdi-centre MINT-Network Essen<\/strong><\/a>, which is supported by the \u201eBildungsCentrum der Wirtschaft gemeinn\u00fctzige GmbH\u201c (Training Centre of Economics Non-profit Agency), is to consistently implement biography-accompanying offers for the promotion of young scientific and technical talent from day-care all the way to career and university.<\/p>\n

The offers are aimed at pre-school children and schoolchildren in Essen. With the participation of all partners, numerous cooperative projects have been developed since the founding of zdi-Essen, and already existing activities have been sustainably supported and broadly carried out. Another goal of this biography-accompanying approach is to support and promote teacher training activities.<\/p>\n<\/div>

KidsgoMINT<\/h2><\/div>

Kidsgo<\/em>MINT is an educational offer in the pre-school sector for children in the last year of kindergarten. They get their first practical insight into scientific and technical contexts. The concept is based on experiment boxes and guidelines for their use and for understanding the experiments.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

KiNT boxes<\/h2><\/div>

KiNT boxes (STEM boxes) deal with different aspects of science and technology for primary school science lessons. They contain items made of different materials to try out and experiment with. All materials are selected to support the children in their understanding of the phenomena and give them the opportunity to test their own ideas.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

MINT-Pool<\/h2><\/div>

The pool allows teachers the possibility to borrow demonstration and experiment cases on STEM topics. The target group is lower and upper secondary school; the programme represents an extension of the school collection.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Donors from the zdi Centre STEM Network Essen recognise pupils for particularly good achievements in the STEM fields through STEM awards on various topics.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Summer camps<\/h2><\/div>

The camps, which last several days and are free of charge, are aimed at students in general education from the 8th grade upwards and take place during the Easter, summer and autumn holidays. Under the guidance of experts, practical workshops and excursions are held on a STEM topic.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

The zdi Robotics Competition <\/h2><\/div>

The zdi Robotics Competition is aimed at robotics enthusiasts aged 10 to 16 at all schools. The teams complete a timed course with LEGO Mindstorms\u00ae robots they have built and programmed themselves.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
