Dear Students,

Essen is a university city in the middle of the Ruhr metropolis. More than 30,000 young people are currently pursuing an academic degree at Essen’s various universities.

Among them are you, the students of today, the future of Essen as a city of science.

We are therefore diligently working on projects that will benefit the students.

Potential topics include:

  • student housing
  • early networking opportunities for students with the local business community for a smooth transition from studying to working life
  • more attractiveness for students from outside the region, etc.

Essen Universities and their Range of Studies

In Essen, universities offer a wide range of attractive Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes as well as various doctoral programmes (University of Duisburg-Essen, Folkwang University of the Arts).

Student Union Essen-Duisburg

The Student Union Essen-Duisburg supports students during their studies with numerous services in the fields of housing, nutrition and finances. This also includes support and advice on social issues, advice and assistance in challenging situations and the organisation of cultural events.

Michael Dahlhoff

Managing Director of the Student Union Essen-Duisburg

„In the competition for high potentials in science and business, a strong city profile is advantageous. Essen’s high attractiveness as a university location for international students forms an excellent foundation for this. A joint strategy of science, business, culture and administration concentrates and pushes the strengths of Essen as an important and attractive business and university location in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The initiative “Science City Essen” is a driving force for such a development. We at the Student Union Essen-Duisburg are looking forward to helping shape the location with a diverse range of offers from gastronomy, housing, student financing, advice, childcare and intercultural opportunities- especially for young people. As a member of the “Science City Essen” initiative, we would like to make our contribution to raising the profile of the city of Essen as a science location and to show: People enjoy studying here.“
